Game Review - The Journey Fifa 17

The Journey is one of the main features in Fifa 17 and it tells the story of how a young boy called Alex Hunter and how he goes from being a young child with bags of footballing talent to being one of the best players in the English Premier League and one of the best in the world. Despite it being such a fairy tale story Alex does experience some big setbacks such as getting sent out on loan and his father leaving his mother and not seeing Alex from young. It is safe to say it is one of the best features EA sports have ever included in the Fifa franchise.

What I liked about this story mode is the fact it is very realistic in what would happen to young players in football that have the potential to be one of the world greats such as Hunter getting sent out on loan to a lower league club. I also like how you can control the way in Alex Hunter acts and what he says, and what you say effects his personality.

The themes that the game fits are perseverance, hope, competitiveness and happiness. The game comes under the theme of perseverance as Alex is constantly trying his best in everything he does so that he eventually gets over the obstacle of being loaned out to the Championship. As he does this he reeks the reward as eventually he gets back into the Premier League. It fits thew theme of hope as despite being knocked back by obstacles he is always hopeful that the best things happen. For instance at the start of The Journey he is hopeful that he will get picked to go on the pre-season tour of the USA and has positive thinking that he will get on it as well as his mum who is very positive that he will get picked. The game mode also fits the theme of competitiveness as he Alex Hunter has the need to be the best player in the league and in the world and works as hard as he can to prove that he is. He does this by constantly training and always getting into good positions to score in matches. Happiness is the final theme that the game fits into as Hunter at different parts of the story line is happy like when he finds out that he got onto to the pre-season tour he celebrates by dropping to knees and shouts "wooooohooooooo" or at the end of the story line when he wins the FA Cup he is very happy and he celebrates with all his team mates.

Hunter is happy after scoring a goal links to the happiness theme.

The game fits into the genres of Role Play and simulation. It fits into the genre of Role Play as you control the actions of Alex Hunter, what he says and what he does. For example at throughout the story line different options come up with how to speak whether it is a fiery, cool or in the middle of the two response to conversations and questions given by different characters within The Journey. It also fits into the genre of simulation as you control what football games and football training, real life activities that feature within the game. For example you have to play the football matches that Hunter is involved in and obviously try to score and win the matches.

The Game Play Mode for The Journey is single player as there is only one Alex Hunter therefore only one person can control him and what he does. Despite the actual game FIFA 17 being a multiplayer and online game, this part of the game is purely one player.

The Journey is a third person. Not for one moment are you looking through the eyes of Hunter you are always looking from a round a 5 metre distance away despite when playing a match as you look from the gantry in the stands just like watching a real life football match.

The graphics used in the game are amazing. There is so much depth put into the characters to the point where you can see their hair move and you can also see sweat dripping down their face. The music is also very good it is very upbeat and positive which gets you ion the zone to do well whilst playing the game. Like the song Comeback Kid by Kasabian the beat is very positive and fast to represent the life of Hunter as it is action packed and he has positive things happens to him. The lyrics also represent Hunter's Journey as he performs a sort of comeback from the Championship to become one of the best players in the Premier League. The game play is also very smooth and runs very well, the reaction time of the computer to you on the controls is very small to make sure that what you do and want to do as quickly as you do it.

Hunter after a game, the shine shows the sweat on his head.

Overall The Journey is a very good game mode its content is good, the graphics are insane and there are no faults with it. It is one of the best modes Fifa and EA Sports have ever produced on a game and it opens up a world of new ideas and capabilities. My overall score of the game mode is 9/10. it does get the full 10/10 as it can get slightly repetitive in what happens and what you have to do but other than that it is a fantastic game mode.
